TERABAI MANIK FRAME (S)

Terabai Manik are made of beads and are shaped like shields. Terabai Manik are placed in the frame as home ornaments. Technically, Terabai Manik has its own story in the Iban tribe. Terabai is a shield that made of a single piece of softwood and engraved with figurative and flora designs. In the old days, Terabai was used in warfare by the Iban and Dayak tribes of Sarawak as a form of protection. It functions to protect one’s body from being slashed by an enemy during ‘Ngayau’ (the head-hunting) days.
