First built in 1847, the Kuchig Grand Mosque has stood intact as the oldest Islamic symbol in Kuching City. Since its construction, the mosque has been renovated four times. The latest design inspired by the Mughal dynasty building, studded with Malay philosophy and tradition, has remained one of the most recognizable icons of Kuching City.
This heritage house was once used as a Madrasah of the Muslim Malays or Sekolah Rendah Rakyat which was opened to the younger generation around the village of Jalan Ajibah Abol. Among the people who have been backup teachers in this madrasah are Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib bin Mahmud, Cikgu Midai Zakaria, Cikgu Annuar Abdul Razak and Cikgu Fatimah Dahari.
