Khalimah Orang Duduk is a sitting person who carries great meaning for Muslims. The picture inside the frame shows someone sitting on the Final Tasyahhud. The picture contains the holy Khalimah for Muslims.
Terabai Manik are made of beads and are shaped like shields. Terabai Manik are placed in the frame as home ornaments. Technically, Terabai Manik has its own story in the Iban tribe. Terabai is a shield that made of a single piece of softwood and engraved with figurative and flora designs. In the old days, Terabai was used in warfare by the Iban and Dayak tribes of Sarawak as a form of protection. It functions to protect one’s body from being slashed by an enemy during ‘Ngayau’ (the head-hunting) days.
"Parang" is the traditional heritage machete of the Ibans in Sarawak. Parang, or better known as the machete, was a weapon for self-defence during the colonial era in the old days. After the Second World War, it was used by the Ibans to carry out daily activities. This Parang has a Borneo Dayak-motivated engraving that has a thousand and one meanings. Meanwhile, Parang nowadays can be used as a home ornament, by placing it in the frame, decorating the walls of the house makes the home décor look more antique. This machete cover is made of hand-woven beads that are inspired by a Borneo pattern.
This Mini Penan box are handwoven by our community in Sarawak. Their skills in hand weaving have been in their tribe for generations. They produce bags and custom made baskets in different sizes to ensure that they can be incorporated into one’s lifestyle.
